Reign: 1485-1509 (23 yrs)

captured the throne from Richard III; was a descendent of the House of Lancaster; m. Elizabeth of the House of York, thus ending the War of the Roses and establishing the new House of Tudor

m. Catherine of Aragon; died at age 15 while his father was still king

married King James IV of Scotland

(1491-1547)

Reign: 1509-1547 (37 yrs)

m. Catherine of Aragon (his brother's widow) but later divorced her causing a major rift with the Catholic church; married five more times: Anne Boleyn (beheaded), Jane Seymour (died after childbirth), Anne of Cleves (anulled), Catherine Howard (beheaded), and Catherine Parr (survived Henry)

Mary, Queen of Scots
(1542-1587)
married three times (was briefly Queen of France); abdicated the Scottish throne after her second husband's death; beheaded for plotting to steal the throne from Elizabeth I
